چکیده

Magnetic properties of quark matter at finite temperature are discussed by evaluating the magnetic susceptibility. Combining the microscopic calculation of the self-energy for quarks as well as the screening effects for gluons with Fermi-liquid theory in a consistent way, we study the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility. The longitudinal gluons have the static screening given by the Debye mass, and have a standard temperature dependence of O(T 2). An anomalous T 2 lnT term arises in the magnetic susceptibility as a novel non-Fermi-liquid effect due to the anomalous self-energy for quarks given by the dynamic screening for transverse gluons. We then extract the critical (Curie) temperature and present the magnetic phase diagram on the density-temperature plane.

Thermodynamics of QCD at large quark chemical potential

We review the existing weak-coupling results on the thermodynamic potential of deconfined QCD at small and large quark chemical potential and compare with results from lattice gauge theory as well as the exactly solvable case of large-N f QCD. We also discuss the new analytical results on non-Fermi-liquid effects in entropy and specific heat as well as in dispersion laws of quark quasiparticles...

Kondo-cluster-glass state near a ferromagnetic quantum phase transition.

We report on a comprehensive study of CePd(1-x)Rh(x) (0.6 <or= x <or= 0.95) poly- and single crystals close to the ferromagnetic instability by means of low-temperature ac susceptibility, magnetization, and volume thermal expansion. The signature of ferromagnetism in this heavy-fermion system can be traced from 6.6 K in CePd down to 25 mK for x = 0.87. Despite pronounced non-Fermi-liquid effect...

Anomalous Specific Heat in Ultradegenerate Qed and Qcd

We discuss the origin of the anomalous T lnT behavior of the low-temperature entropy and specific heat in ultradegenerate QED and QCD and report on a recent calculation which is complete to leading order in the coupling and which contains an infinite series of anomalous terms involving also fractional powers in T . This result involves dynamical hard-dense-loop resummation and interpolates betw...

State : Magnetized Composite Fermions

The Fermionic Chern-Simons approach has had remarkable success in the description of quantum Hall states at even denominator filling fractions ν = 1 2m . In this paper we review a number of recent works concerned with modeling this state as a Landau-Silin Fermi liquid. We will then focus on one particular problem with constructing such a Landau theory that becomes apparent in the limit of high ...
